Sr. Director, HPC Hardware Engineering

Overview
The HPC and AI Engineering team are responsible for designing product and solutions using a combination of internal and 3rd party hardware and software. The team’s scope extends from designing a solution which meets the customer specific needs, through working with internal and external engineering teams to deliver the technology roadmap, through documenting the complete solution and providing manufacturing with detailed build documentation. The team is also chartered to identify those solutions which are repeatable and should be made available as standard products.
The Sr. Director, HPC Hardware Engineering is responsible for leading this team and managing the partnership with our technical partners.
Responsibilities
- Defining and running a rigorous hardware engineering process to deliver high quality customized and repeatable solutions.
- Managing the technical relationship with our hardware OEM and ODM partners, including driving requirements, qualification, defining and managing SOWs, tracking and resolving any quality issues or product defects.
- Working with the CTO and product management to select key industry partners and solutions to deliver on our solution roadmap.
- Working with product management to define and deliver the required Server, Storage and Networking components.
- Selecting and managing partnerships with 3rd party software vendors, including Software-defined Storage vendors.
- Optimizing the delivery process to maximize reuse while maintaining Penguin’s leadership in customized solutions.
- Managing Penguins internal validation lab for system level validation.
- Staffing and delivering the technical aspects of customer POCs which require new capabilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
- Strong hardware expertise in HPC, AI and high-performance Storage technology, with a deep understanding of the current market and solutions.
- 7+ years of Engineering Management experience.
- Experience leading product development in HPC and AI infrastructure technology
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to work in an Agile environment reacting to changing customer needs.
- Experience in developing and optimizing engineering processes.
- Familiar with Data center infrastructure, including power and cooling.
- Strong communications skills and executive presence.
Location
- Our preference is for a candidate who can work a hybrid role in Fremont, California; however, we are open to remote for the right candidate.
Travel
- Up to 20%
Compensation & Benefits
The pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position in the United States is $195,000 - $225,000; the pay ultimately offered within the expected range may vary based on business considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The position is bonus-eligible, and there are medical, dental, and vision benefits available. There is a 401k saving plan and other benefits, such as Paid Time Off, Life Insurance, and an Employee Assistance Plan.
