Job Overview

Penguin Solutions Professional Services provides engineering services for the planning, integration, configuration, deployment, and validation of complex environments involving high-performance computing, cloud, and enterprise systems. This customer-facing role works at company and customer sites, often with limited on-site supervision, to assess deployment conditions, determine the appropriate sequence and method of work within established standards, resolve technical issues, and document results. The role requires sound technical judgment, effective customer communication, and hands-on execution to support successful deployments.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assess customer site readiness, infrastructure requirements, and deployment risks, recommending appropriate actions to support successful implementations.
  • Independently determine installation, configuration, testing, and validation approaches for assigned deployments within established standards and project objectives.
  • Rack, cable, configure, deploy, and validate complex compute, storage, and networking systems in data center and customer environments.
  • Analyze hardware, network, and system issues, exercising sound technical judgment to identify, recommend, and implement effective solutions.
  • Adapt deployment activities to site conditions and customer requirements while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Serve as the primary on-site technical resource for assigned deployments, providing technical guidance, status updates, and issue resolution support.
  • Coordinate deployment activities with customers, project managers, engineering teams, vendors, and support personnel to ensure successful project execution.
  • Document technical assessments, configurations, decisions, test results, issues, and deployment outcomes.
  • Recommend improvements to deployment processes, tools, documentation, and technical best practices.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, technical documentation, and mentoring of less experienced team members.
  • Lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel up to 60% domestically and internationally as required.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience supporting data center, compute, network, or infrastructure deployments.
  • Experience installing CAT6 and fiber cabling and building, configuring, or repairing compute servers.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues, evaluate available information, and select an appropriate course of action within established standards.
  • Ability to work independently at customer sites, manage changing on-site conditions, and communicate decisions, risks, and status clearly.
  • Familiarity with data center environments and safety practices.
  • Familiarity with Linux preferred but not required.
  • US citizenship required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 60%.

Compensation & Benefits

The base pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position in the United States is $60,000 - $75,000; the pay ultimately offered may vary based on business considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The position is bonus-eligible, and there are medical, dental, and vision benefits available. There is a 401k saving plan and other benefits, such as Paid Time Off, Life Insurance, and an Employee Assistance Plan.
