Job Overview
The Facilities Engineer / Chargeman is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and safety of all electrical systems and facility infrastructure. This role ensures compliance with statutory requirements, supports uninterrupted plant operations, and drives energy efficiency initiatives within the facility.
Responsibilities
Electrical & M&E Systems Management:
- Operate, monitor, and maintain electrical and M&E systems across the facility to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted operation.
- Oversee electrical distribution systems, including incoming power supply, transformers, switchboards, and associated equipment.
- Perform electrical switching, isolation, troubleshooting, testing, and restoration activities in accordance with approved procedures and statutory requirements.
- Ensure all electrical installations and equipment are operated and maintained in compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga requirements, the Electricity Supply Act, and applicable regulations and standards.
- Analyze equipment performance, identify potential risks, and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain electrical and M&E asset information, maintenance records, single-line diagrams, operating procedures, and technical documentation.
Facilities Operations & Maintenance:
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs for facility and M&E systems.
- Monitor the performance and reliability of HVAC, chillers, cooling systems, compressed air, lighting, water supply, drainage, and other critical utilities.
- Perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for facility equipment issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Coordinate with facilities contractors and service providers to ensure work quality, safety, performance, and compliance with site requirements. Monitor contractor performance and identify opportunities to improve service quality and maintenance effectiveness.
- Ensure contractors comply with site safety requirements, permit-to-work procedures, electrical safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Ensure facility operations and maintenance activities comply with applicable Malaysian statutory, regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements
- Ensure critical facility systems and utilities are maintained to support continuous 24-hour operations
Energy Management & Sustainability:
- Monitor and analyze facility energy consumption, including kWh, kW demand, power quality, and utility performance.
- Identify and implement energy-saving opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.
- Support and drive energy management programs, sustainability initiatives, renewable energy projects, and environmental improvement activities.
- Monitor solar PV system performance and renewable energy generation and identify opportunities to optimize energy utilization.
- Support the site's energy performance improvement, carbon reduction, and sustainability objectives.
- Prepare energy and sustainability reports and provide data required for internal and external audits.
- Drive to the site's energy performance improvement, carbon reduction, and sustainability objectives
Facilities Improvement Project:
- Coordinate facilities improvement, upgrading, expansion, renovation, and infrastructure projects from planning through completion.
- Conduct site inspections and monitor project progress, quality, safety, and compliance with approved requirements.
- Coordinate testing, commissioning, handover, and documentation for facility improvement systems.
- Assist the Department Manager in Facilities, Energy, Sustainability, and infrastructure-related activities.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Monitor facilities maintenance activities and key performance indicators, including equipment reliability, energy performance, and maintenance effectiveness.
- Analyze facilities and utility data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, inspections, testing, and other technical documentation required for operational control and audits.
- Maintain readiness for regulatory, customer, corporate, and third-party audits.
- Prepare technical reports and updates on facility performance, issues, and improvement activities.
- Close audit findings and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform shift duties, standby duties, and emergency support as required to support 24-hour facility operations.
- Participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and management reviews.
- Provide technical support and coordination to technicians and other facility personnel when required.
- Undertake other facilities engineering, energy management, sustainability, and infrastructure-related responsibilities as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum Chargeman AO
- Above 10 years facilities experience in manufacturing environment.
- Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and schematic reading skills.
- Good knowledge of M&E, electrical, HVAC, and building systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills with minimal supervision.
- Good knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Ability to analyze equipment and energy performance.
- Good contractor coordination and project management skills.
- Knowledge of statutory, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Good communication, teamwork, and customer service skill.
