Job Overview

The Lead Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer serves as the primary technical infrastructure lead for the site, partnering closely with business leaders, Corporate IT, vendors, and regional IT teams to design, implement, support, and continuously improve secure, scalable, and highly available IT environments. This role provides technical leadership across endpoint, network, server, storage, cloud, and collaboration technologies while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security standards, and business objectives.

As the site's infrastructure lead, this position acts as the primary technical point of contact for infrastructure initiatives, operational excellence, and technology planning. The Lead Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer coordinates and prioritizes work for junior engineers and regional IT resources, mentors team members, leads technical projects, and drives continuous improvement of the site's IT infrastructure while remaining actively engaged in hands-on engineering and support.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with exceptional technical expertise, strong leadership and communication skills, and a passion for solving complex problems while delivering an outstanding end-user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary IT Infrastructure technical lead for the site, ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure services while aligning local business requirements with Corporate IT strategy.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for site business leaders, department managers, Corporate IT, and regional IT teams for infrastructure-related initiatives, operational issues, and strategic planning.
  • In conjunction with Corporate IT SMEs, oversee the performance, availability, monitoring, maintenance, and lifecycle management of site IT infrastructure, including endpoints, networking, servers, storage, cloud services, and collaboration technologies.
  • Provide advanced investigation, diagnostic testing, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex infrastructure, hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Gather business requirements and collaborate with Corporate IT Services to design, implement, and support LAN/WAN infrastructure, backup solutions, telecommunications, cloud services, and regional IT initiatives.
  • Coordinate infrastructure deployments including endpoint technologies, networking equipment, servers, storage solutions, and cloud services while ensuring compliance with enterprise architecture and security standards.
  • Coordinate, prioritize, and assign technical work to junior infrastructure engineers and regional IT resources to ensure operational support, project milestones, and service level objectives are achieved.
  • Mentor junior engineers by providing technical guidance, knowledge sharing, coaching, and development opportunities while promoting infrastructure best practices.
  • Lead technical projects from planning through implementation by coordinating business stakeholders, Corporate IT, vendors, and regional technical resources.
  • Provide technical leadership during infrastructure incidents, planned maintenance activities, and business-critical events, coordinating resources through successful resolution.
  • Recommend hardware, software, and infrastructure improvements, including technology refreshes, capacity planning, lifecycle management, and strategic investments.
  • Manage vendor relationships, oversee third-party technical resources, and ensure work quality, service level compliance, and successful project delivery.
  • Manage and follow up on IT-related issues with internal customers, Corporate IT Services, and external vendors to ensure timely resolution.
  • Conduct internal training programs and provide technical leadership during infrastructure changes, deployments, and operational improvements.
  • Participate in internal and external IT audits, ensuring compliance with security policies, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Create, maintain, and continuously improve technical documentation for infrastructure architecture, deployment standards, operational procedures, disaster recovery, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve infrastructure reliability, automation, security, operational efficiency, and end-user experience.
  • Own the overall health, availability, and continuous improvement of the site's IT infrastructure by proactively identifying risks, recommending solutions, and supporting business continuity objectives.
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for infrastructure changes, providing feedback to Corporate IT while advocating for the needs of site users and business leaders.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, endpoint engineering, networking, or related disciplines, including experience serving as a technical lead on complex infrastructure initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and coordinate the work of junior engineers and cross-functional technical teams without direct supervisory authority.
  • Strong customer-focused mindset with the ability to build trusted relationships with business leaders, Corporate IT, vendors, and end users.
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently prioritize work, make sound technical decisions, and adapt to a fast-paced, multi-technology environment.
  • Advanced proficiency supporting desktop client OS, including Microsoft Windows and macOS.
  • Awareness and understanding of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure Active Directory/Entra ID, Okta, and enterprise endpoint management technologies.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft SCCM Configuration Manager and Microsoft Intune for device deployment, operating system imaging, software distribution, compliance, and endpoint management.
  • Expertise supporting enterprise PC hardware, peripherals, mobile devices, conference room technologies, and hybrid workplace solutions.
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, wireless networking, and switching/routing to facilitate troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
  • Experience supporting server infrastructure, virtualization platforms, storage technologies, backup solutions, and cloud services.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical troubleshooting efforts, perform root cause analysis, and resolve complex infrastructure issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, business leaders, executives, and end users.
  • Proven project leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives while balancing operational priorities.
  • Ability to influence technical decisions, build consensus among stakeholders, and communicate technical recommendations to leadership.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and coordinating third-party technical resources.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL service management principles, change management, incident management, and problem management processes.
  • Experience performing User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and representing business requirements during enterprise technology deployments.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside normal work hours when required to collaborate with IT colleagues in other time zones.
  • Knowledge of Linux workstations and server administration is considered a plus.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
