Job Overview

Penguin Solutions is seeking a Vice President of Software Engineering, reporting directly to our Chief Product Officer, to lead and grow our ClusterWare Development organization in India. This executive will be responsible for building and scaling a high-performing engineering organization focused on cluster management software, orchestration, and platform services that underpin our HPC and AI infrastructure offerings.

This role combines technical leadership, organizational scaling, and product alignment. VP will drive innovation in cluster provisioning, workload orchestration, monitoring, and lifecycle management while partnering closely with global engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.

Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and inspire a world-class software engineering organization
• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Scale engineering operations while maintaining agility and execution excellence.
• Define and execute the technical vision and roadmap for the ClusterWare Software Platform.
• Establish best practices for software architecture, development, testing, and release management.
• Drive high-quality, scalable, secure software delivery aligned with enterprise and HPC standards.
• Lead development of cluster management systems, including provisioning, scheduling, monitoring, and automation.
• Oversee integration with HPC schedulers (e.g., Slurm), Kubernetes, AI/ML orchestration frameworks, and cloud ecosystems.
• Drive innovation in hybrid/cloud-native cluster management solutions.
• Partner with Product Management to align engineering priorities with customer needs and business strategy.
• Establish KPIs and metrics to track engineering productivity, quality, and delivery timelines.
• Drive adoption of AI coding, CI/CD, DevOps practices, and modern engineering tools.
• Ensure compliance with security, data privacy, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication, or a related engineering discipline from a recognized university or institution.
• 20+ years of experience in software engineering, including senior leadership roles (Director/VP level).
• Proven track record of building and scaling distributed engineering teams in India.
• Strong expertise in cluster management, distributed systems, HPC, or cloud infrastructure
• Experience with technologies such as:
• Linux/Unix systems o Distributed computing frameworks
• Kubernetes and container orchestration
• HPC schedulers (e.g., Slurm, PBS)
• Demonstrated ability to drive large-scale, complex software programs.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to align engineering with product and revenue goals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in HPC, AI/ML infrastructure, or data center-scale systems.
• Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and edge computing.
• Prior experience in platform or systems software companies.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
