Overview

Stratus Technologies is seeking a Field Service Engineer to join a dynamic team of service professionals providing onsite installation and remediation support for our high availability and fault tolerant server products.  You will engage directly with customers to plan and coordinate the installation and configuration of Stratus server products according to customer needs.  Schedule and make travel arrangements to execute onsite installation activities according to the plan.  Test and validate the system installation until complete and ready to hand over to the customer.  Provide training to the customer to ensure they have the knowledge to properly administer and manage their new Stratus server, including hardware component replacement (CRU’s) and software update process.  When necessary, travel onsite for critical situations which require product expertise to diagnose and remediate problems.  This role requires frequent travel, and we are seeking candidates who have worked in similar roles.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of on-site installations, upgrades, and remedial activities.
  • Collaborate with the sales engineering team to transition customer requirements and configurations captured during the sales cycle to ensure an efficient installation that meets customer expectations.
  • Lead the planning stage by ensuring the pre-installation checklist is completed with the customer and an installation plan is agreed upon.
  • Perform hardware component replacements, system moves, and other professional services as necessary.
  • Perform software, firmware, and bios upgrades.
  • Deliver customer “Jump Start” training to ensure the customer is fully enabled to manage their new Stratus server.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience with fault-tolerant hardware and related technologies such as SAN, RAID and KVM.
  • Proficiency in systems and network concepts.
  • System administrator competence in operating systems (Windows, VMware ESXi, Linux), with a thorough understanding of Server installs, upgrades, and configurations.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • 5+ years of work experience providing on-site hardware technical support.

 

Location

This is a hybrid position located in the Dallas, TX area.

 

Travel

Anticipated travel of 50% or more, primarily to South Central US and occasionally to other parts of the US and Canada as needed.

 

Compensation & Benefits

The base pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position in the Dallas, TX area is $70,000 - $85,000; the pay ultimately offered may vary based on business considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The position is bonus-eligible, and there are medical, dental, and vision benefits available. There is a 401k saving plan and other benefits, such as Paid Time Off, Life Insurance, and an Employee Assistance Plan.
